I should have mentioned that my friend is an electronic engineer, as am I, so we both know what is needed from a meter for working on cars. As you say, on most meters for electronic work, only V, I and R are useful for automotive work and the rest are superfluous. I was just pointing out that there are specific tools for this type of work. I wouldn't suggest anyone actually spend that much on a meter until they know what they are going to use it for. It's a law of diminishing returns and the biggest bang for the buck (or "quid") is to be had in buying a cheap meter with the basic functions you'll use most of the time.
