I am with you on the radar detector, but a tow to the dealer sounds like it has the potential for an expensive learning experience. The scariest part of this is that your car may startup at the dealership and they will tell you there's nothing wrong.
The clicking you heard near the battery is the starter soleniod. Which tells you that the car was at least trying to start. If the battery was so dead that all you got was the starter click, I would expect the interior lights to be dim enough to be noticeable. Which pretty much leaves the starter as the most likely suspect. There is a heat related syndrome which effects earlier 9000's that is very much like your problem, but I thought this was straightened out in later years. So, sounds like the starter to me.
I think you have 2 problems since I don't think fuse 9 is related to the no start
