I agree with Keith. I don't think the sensor really gets dirty. It's just a coil of wire embedded in the sensor with a flat face. As Keith says, the wires get brittle and the insulation fails. With a bumpy left-hand turn, the right side wires will be bunched up, the left side stretched - either one could be the problem. Also, the end of the cables have connections, and those connections can get dirty. Actually, the contact surfaces build up an oxidation layer. Sometimes just unplugging and plugging back in (re-seating) the connector a few times does the trick.
In terms of cleaning, the only place I would actually clean is the reluctance wheel. That's the toothed gear on the hub that the sensor sees. If the gaps between the teeth fill up with ferrous material, usually held in with dirt and grease, it can make the sensor think the wheel isn't spinning, or spinning the wrong amount. Ferrous gunk can come from brake rotors wearing, and from some metallic and semi-metallic brake pads. I would clean that out with a high pressure hose (wear eye protection!) or manually with an old toothbrush. I'd worry that any chemical means would attack the bearing grease and boot rubber.
Good luck!
