Bill- though I never had a stuck in 5th problem, I do have a problem w/ 3rd and 4th . Though my problem is tolerable, considering the fix is a new tranny. 3rd and 4th apparently are related to each other (same shaft? ) am not a tranny expert, but consider- my prob. is only 3rd and 4th, rest of the gears work fine. I have replaced shift coupler (at 200k miles). Helps somewhat. I have to hold the stick (which I do normally anyway) to prevent it from working it's way out of gear under load. I have 250k miles on mine, and it does not bother me at all. This started when it had less than 100k miles (I bought car new) . Dealer would not help me out, other than cite 2 repair options- they rebuild for 3500$ or buy new for 4000$ NOT! Good luck-
