... I dumped the bucket of bolts for a hot new ride. But y'know, I took the bucket of bolts for a couple of test rides before I turned it over to the new owner, and I was impressed with what a sweet ride it is for an eleven year old car. I've had my eye and heart on an Aero for at least a year and a half, as Bob Davis can tell you, so it was inevitable. I hope to heck I've done most of the stuff that will need to be done to the 91 - no, I never did replace the balance chain sprocket - and I hope it treats the new owner well, particularly since he's a friend and coworker (I know - NEVER sell a car to a friend!) But he knows all the travails I've been through with it, he's a down-to-earth guy who knows about working on cars, and he's a young kid who isn't afraid to get in there and do the work. Besides, he got it cheap; when he asked what I wanted for it and I said $3500, he lept. I figured it would be hard to sell with the gimpy second gear, but, as I said, he knows cars and had sense enough to know that it wasn't really a problem, which I don't think the average buyer would realize. And whatever trouble it gives him, he'll have my knowledge of it to help him through, and I'll almost certainly spend a few weekends helping him deal with whatever it throws at him in the future. There are some upsides to buying from a friend. I'm sure I'll enjoy helping him work on it a lot more than I would working on it if it were still mine. He said, "You have to give me the source for your Web site, y'know - I can't deal with it without that Web site." As if I was just going to abandon Quasimotors ... NONONONONO! Never abandon, just EXPAND! It'll always be there, as long as I'm a Saab owner. Brings up an interesting point, though ... I need a backup to take over the site, in case I get hit by a truck, or overextend this SAS-equipped Aero and buy the farm some time. I'll probably make him my backup, or you or Davis. You guys have the command of Saabs, the command of the language and the requisite wit to be the front runners ... but I need someone with command of the Web, too, and he has that. Plus, he's a young buck, younger than any of us (well, I assume ... I know how old Davis and I are).
Yes, I am feeling chatty this evening ... deal with the bandwidth, Scott!
Lost the passion for the 91? Yes, definitely. The turbo just did me in, that just wasn't fair, dammit! But frankly, I'm losing my passion for working on cars in general. I'd enjoy it if it always went as it should, but it never does. Mechanic-ing is never easy. It's real world stuff, and it's messy and usually very annoying. Best I should start anew with something that I have a fighting chance with!
