that you have water in the exhaust system which is now coming out. I'm no expert but my indy mechanic told me this might happen as I drove home today after having the head gasket replaced on my car: he had run it for an hour or so, and in fact I didn't get any white smoke.

I forgot to ask him if thee was any danger to the catalyst from all this – does anybody know?

Another thing – are you getting any oil in the water? I understand that on modern engines, this is more likely that getting water in the oil. Certainly was the case with my gasket failure – mayonnaise in the header tank but nothing in the oil. It may be quite easy to spot the oil if you chuck some coolant on the garage floor and look for the sheen.

Once again, no expert but I reckon if there is a gasket leak, it will get worse rather than better and for long-term use it has to be done right anyway. Makes me glad I hired the job done...
