There's a little notch in the rear of the plastic plate which holds the mirror switch. It's through that notch that you insert a small flat screwdriver and thus release a little catch, I think it's by pushing forward (towards the front of the car). You wouldn't need a pry by in either case though, a regular screwdriver is strong enough to break that little plastic plate - not that I'd know anything about that...
