Ok, for the start you have the center console opened and you have removed the plastic "clip" that locks the adjustment nuts. The screws in the middle don't normally do anything in adjustment, the nuts count... And there is quite a bit of turns on the threads.

Normally one don't need to adjust the e-brake / hand brake, says Haynes, but hey I wouldn't agree too much.

1. Adjust the brakepads evenly on both sides so that they don't drag too much.

2. Hand Brake / E-Brake off from the handle.

3. Locate the lever arm in the rear brake caliper. There is a limitter pin that limits the arm's movement when released.

4. Put in a feeler gauge into the gap between the limitter pin and the arm. Gap should be 0.5 mm.

5. Adjust the NUTS in the center console until the feeler gauge drops off the caliper.

6. Repeat on the other side.

Start investigating if the gap is correct or the adj. screw (hex under the cap) are correctly adjusted etc. etc. e.g. It might be quite a pain to get the hand brake even on both sides.

And check / double check that the hand brake releases really and the brakes don't drag too much. If they drag too much your rear wheel bearings will go out and it's $$$.

One may notice that there is also limitter pins in the endpoint of the leveler movement. Don't know if the brake could be also adjusted by using those pins... Also for the initial adjustment there must be more sophisticated way than described in Haynes manual,,

One more thing,,, Your cables might be worn out if you don't get the hand brakes even.

Oh yes! _hand_brake_... You know on a slippery it's nice to do the turn with it... thus hand brake... (Actually here it is called officially "Parking brake") ;-)

Hope this helps. There is also writing on the townsend site (sponsor).
