It's been going on since last spring. One day I noticed after taking my airbox apart, that my car made a "Reeeee!!" sound, like a supercharger almost at high throttle/boost situations. If you start the car off from a stop, you get the normal turbo sound, which is fine and dandy. Then, you get this wierd hissing sound, almost like a turbo car with an intake, like mine. Then farther up the line, as the revs and throttle rise, you get the "reeeeee!" sound. It's only dependant on high boost, and usually moderate to heavy throttle. I've tried lots of stuff. I've checked for leaks, fixed one. I welded a hairline crack in my downpipe which was close to the turbo flange. That didn't fix it. I've run without the intake on, just an open turbo, to rule out intake noise. Nope. The only time I can negate the noise, is if i disconnect the intercooler pipe from the throttle body and run no boost at all, to rule out any engine.mechanical or transmission noise. I'm now to the point where I think I might need a new turbo, as I think the bearings might be wearing. Although shaft play is minimal, the turbo spools fine, and doesn't emit any smoke whatsoever, except a puff at WOT, which is normal. Of course, I have no idea where I would get the money for that. Can anyone else think of some other stuff I can try or check?
