Damn, all you "young punks" getting cars when you're still young.

Anyway as for stereo, what exactly are you looking for?
a. any sound
b. quality sound
c. quality sound with bass (not too much)
d. booming bass YO!!!

Any way you want to go will tailor your purchases.
A good place to start is a quality deck, then you'll want good speakers (either straight replacements or component sets)

If you want bass, add an amp and a subwoofer.

If you check out http://www.crutchfield.com you can find some rather helpful information. And you can check out my link below (my stereo install)

Final advice: try not to skimp on anything. If you get a $50 deck and $300 speakers (or vice versa) it'll probably sound like a $50 system.
