Wow this must be my second post in a year! Good to see the likes of Michael Smith and Bob Davis still around. This one is for you Bob, if you recall our many discussions on tranny oil in the 9K!
I do believe that the time has come to replace the transmission. I've avoided the problem long enough, even so far as to camp out in Siberia for several months...all in an effort to 'not deal with it' (well that may not be the only reason:-). I have to face the tunes:
A- at low RPM it will not hold 2nd gear when shifting fron 1st to 2nd. Sometimes it does, sometimes it pops out leaving me to put it in 3rd and ride the clutch to get up to speed. This is fine on flat roads, but have you ever had to turn up a 15 percent hill from a red light, only for the car not to accept 2nd gear? Well that was me a few times, having to go 6000RPM in 1st then hope for the best going directly into third hoping not to lose much speed. Yikes!
B- the amount of gear 'lash' is quite incredible. Even under even light load, letting go of the accelerator yields a heafty 'clunk'. At low RPM and light load you can literally hear it lashing on an off.
C- gear noise is very harsh...not a wine but very loud "shhhhh" noise
The trans has had a good life, but I think it will meet it's maker. It has laster 260K, half of which was very frequent bouts of 25psi from the turbo. The clutch surprisingly still does not slip and has over 120K km, all kms under modified circumstances. Quite incredible there I must say!
So does anybody know who the best source of transmissions for a Canadian buyer would be? SaabDepot possibly, smaller US places like Georges Imports?
I think I may turn down the boost a bit (just a bit), and give the Slaab the second life it deserves.
And well, I must end with at least one parting shot. Bob Davis, I will not admit that the failed transmission is from Redline MT90! That being said, I will ask for Saab synthetic upon installation;-)

(I literally forgot what modifications I've done, it's bee so long since I have driven!)
