I fixed my seat twice, and I found that it's possible to do it even without removing the seat from the car. You only need to unhook the pad leather cover and to lift it enough to put the hand under it.
BTW, both the times my heater wire was broken in the rear left corner, next to the backrest, on the exterior side.
