I didn't remove any fuses or the battery prior to working on the unit. It is very easy to get the unit out of my '89, I would think it is similar on your '93. I just jabbed a small straight blade screwdriver between the console and the bank of switches and used a little upward (nondestructive) prying motion and it was out.
Once the bank is free from it's hole you'll need to remove the wires from the switches. With the ignition off. Simply use your small straight blade screwdriver and work it between the switch and wiring clip. Do a little pry job around in there and the wire clip should come right off. Do this to all of the switches and keep track of which clip goes to which switch.
Once all the wire clips are removed take the switch bank somewhere where you have decent lighting and can sit down comfortably and work. You will still need that small straight blade screw driver.
The switches are basically two main pieces, the top that holds the rocker button and the bottom which holds the light bulb and electrical contacts.
If you look around the base of the switch you will see 2 hooks on each side of every switch. Stuff your screwdriver in there and gently unclip each side until the contact part of the switch is free. Be careful not to lose the contact strips as they are not permanently fastened.
Now you can see your burnt out bulb. You'll need a soldering iron to remove the old bulb and to install the new one.
As long as the unit is apart I would recommend a little penetrating oil on the spring loaded prongs on the bottom side of the rocker button. These can be tested by simply pressing one prong down with your finger nail sliding your nail aside and letting the prong slam back in to place. If the prong moves in slow motion then you need to keep working the lube in there. The swift motion of these prongs determines if your switch will move with very positive motion or will be soft and crappy.
Hope this helps it seems a bit tedious but is a great way to clean your switches and upgrade your lighting.
