Rainwater inside my car

Yesterday while at work it rained all day. When a co-worker and I left for lunch the guy gets in the car and says, hey your car's leaking. I glanced over at the right side floor area and I could see that the floor was a bit wet.
My first thought was heater core issues but that was recently replaced.
When I took a look at home I found that it was definately not the heater core but rather rain water.
I removed the bottom dash panel below the glove box and saw the moisture up under there actually on a bunch of wires and a orange electronic box.
Surely this can't be good for electricals to get wet.
To my amazement I could see some rust on the metal which is the opposite side of the engine compartment.
I popped the hood and took off the panel closest to the windshield where the AC components are housed and confirmed my suspition that this is where the water was getting in.
The best I can figure is that the water runs down my windshield and leaks past one of those push fasteners and drips down in to this area of the sheetmetal that is shaped like a bowl where it can pool up and drip into the interior.
Has anyone had this problem?
How did you fix it?
I am meeting a new to me independant mech. on Friday, kind of hoping he has hands like a squirrel attached to an arm of at least a foot long so he can get in there with some silicone. HAH!
TIA
Arik
