If it is any consolation, replacing the blower motor was the first major project I undertook on my 91 9000 cdt. That was on a really hot day in 1999, and it still stands out as my worst car repair experience. I have done a lot of bigger jobs since then, but I was never closer to taking a baseball bat to the car than that day.
I also found it very difficult to get the blower motor back in. I remember being indignant that something that came out would not go back in. I broke a/c hoses getting it back in, so I would caution you to remain as patient as possible. One thing I did not do was to remove the metal bracket which the bottom of the false fire wall fits into. Quasi describes removing this bracket in his description, and I think that may well be the key to getting the motor back in.
It will go better if you remain calm and continue to try different contorsions, rather than getting frustrated and trying to smash the motor into place. This is something I know from experience. Though, in the interest of full disclosure, smashing the blower motor against the intake manifold is more fulfilling.
