Put a used trans in my 90 9000S. Replaced all clutch mech/hyd at same time, rear seal, and motor/trans mounts. Would reco using the urethane trans mount. Using the Haynes manual makes it an adventure because instructions and photos are kind of generic. Turns out the replacement used gearbox was a year or two older than the stock unit, which made for additional head-scratching. The clutch instructions cited in an earlier post are far better. The key to the job, if one does not have a lift, is good jack stands, and at least one very good garage type jack that has adequate lift capability. A second "economy" jack is very useful. Replacing the trans is very doable, but like most things, the second one you do [god forbid] will go much faster and easier than the first. Since you will have the intermediate shaft out, check its boots carefully. One word of caution: There is a strong temptation to detach the brake lines to get them out of the way. Fight it. On mine one of the lines elected to twist in the fitting instead of unscrew. The fittings are metric and the use a special flare. Don't even think about using a regular flaring tool. Don't ask me how I know. Since you can't bring the line to a dealer, you will have to find/beg/buy/borrow the flaring tool.
