Strange smell, car vibrating, wont stay running and....

it all went away. Huh?

My wife took the 95 9000CS to work and reported a really strange smell as she was exiting the highway (so bad she had to lower the windows). Then she noticed the car was vibrating terribly when stopped. The smell went away, though. She characterized the smell as "bad, really bad" but could not pinpoint a comparison to, say, rubber or gasoline.

She left it parked at work for a few hours and at lunch time started it. It would not hold idle unless she was applying the gas to keep it running...still noticing a strange vibration.

I arrived three hours later to find the car in perfect working order. No vibration, no smell, no problem. Huh?

The only thing which was different was that before she left for work, I filled the windshield washer reservior...in the dark...maybe spilled some on something?

The car has been at the Saab dealer (Patrick in Auburn, MA) all day. They ran diagnostics - computer, visual, etc. and found nothing wrong. Phew.

So...what gives? Any thoughts? Did the car heal itself?

Thanks for any input.
