With all the cars I've seen through the years, with minimum service to some of them. I haven't seen a huge amount of sludge build up in any of the Saab engines.
But suddenly from 94 and up production, I read about it a lot in the NG900 board. With seized engines as a result. Or worn out balance chain and sprockets.
I can't understand why it should happen on a newer engine when the old ones seems to handle it pretty good.
One way to reduce sludge is to change the oil while the engine is piping hot. That way the oil rushes out through the drain plug and drags a lot of it out + a lot of the bad particles is still suspended in the oil instead of sunken to the bottom of the oilpan.
