Hi,
If your charging voltage more or less goes with the engine revs, The diode pack is shot. You can change that yourself, even though it is a PITA to get to. Basically you have to reach behind the engine, lying on top of it. Removal is ok, refitting the new one really quite hard b/c you cannot see what you're doing. Use a flashlight shining from the driver's side to the back of the alternator for some help. Also use something like a tiny thread to keep the brushes pushed down when you fit the pack. Afterwards pull that out.
For the headlights, the relay is the likely culprit. If they go on 'by themselves', measure whether there is 12v on pin #85 of the relay in the engine bay(I guess you're talking the dipped beam, not the day runnning lights). If there is no 12v at that moment, that means the switch circuit is ok, and it is the high current circuit that is shorting. Get a new relay, with the provision that you can always return it when it doesn't help.
For the time being I can only advise you to remove the fuse from the engine bay box when you switch the car off and leave it for a while. Looks clumsy, but prevents your battery from draining.
Good luck,
Jan Geert
