I hope you got a good deal on the used fan since a new one is only about $60-70, new heater core is about the same. Do you know the age and condition of the used fan? Usually when the core goes you replace the fan since when you reinstall the "used" fan, it likes to fail shortly thereafter, you know the Murphy's Law type thing.
I'd recommend using only new parts back there. When you do both, you'll likely not look forward to doing it in 6 months if the fan lasts that long. I replaced my heater core, blower motor, all coolant hoses including heater hoses for under $200. All parts from eEuroparts.com, fast, efficient, friendly.
