I did the job about a year a half ago on my 88 9kt. My dad and i got the job done with a modestset of tools and some friends to help in about 30 hours. It took a while becuase we had never done a job close t this magnitude. It wasnt too bad a job. As long as you have a pretty good sense of working on cars. What really helped the job (probably couldnt have done without) was borrowning my friends engine lift. We needed this to lift the new tranny into position. we hung it over the engine compt with a maze of tiedowns strapped to the trans.
Not a bad job, it just takes PATIENTCE, and yea i would not even try to do it now in this weather, you will just be getting very angry at the car. It's way too cold out.
