Assuming that the torque curve probably peaks at around 1800 rpm
(iirc, around 240 lb-ft) then I would think that any higher rpm would
have less torque. You'd be far from lugging it in 4th - in fact, relative
to torque, you're over revving it! At 2100 rpms, you're definitely in
the flat part of the torque curve that slowly decreases (small negative
slope). I'm sure there are other mechanical considerations, but
I'll go with the torque-view: 4th gear is ideal at that rpm - certainly
you wouldn't be lugging. What you should keep in mind is that
the slope is highly positive before the peak and only slightly negative
after the peak. 2100 is far enough from 1800 so that even if the
rpms should fall a bit, the torque barely varies. Whereas, if you're
below the peak torque, then when the rpms fall a bit, the torque
falls a lot.
