Hello everyone,

For the greater good of all Saabers (or all Saab 9000ers anyway), I have been trying to figure out which axle lengths apply to the various 9000 iterations from 1991 to 1998. Anecdotal evidnece supports that even parts suppliers confuse them (when supplying rebuilt axles etc.), especially since all '91-'98 full pressure turbos, LPT automatics, and '94 non-turbos use identical CV joints and (inner driver) tripod bearings.

Here are the FACTS that I have gathered so far -

There are AT LEAST three different axle lengths for '91-'98 9000 turbos.

The left and right axles on ALL '91-'98 turbo automatics are identical.

The axles on 90-98 turbo automatics are also identical to the '94 non-turbo automatics (both sides) AND the right side axle on any '91-'93 turbo MANUAL.

'94-'98 turbo manual axles are a different length then any other axles (whether right and left sides are identical is unknown to me).

The left side axle is unique on '91-'93 turbo manuals and is longer than the right on those years.

IF the left and right axles are different for '94-'98 manual turbos, then ther are actually FOUR different axle lengths for all '91-'98 9000 turbos.

All '91-'98 turbo axles have identical tripod bearings and CV joints.

SO........

The two missing bits of key information:

Are the left and right axles identical on '94-'98 turbo manuals?

Are the '91-'98 turbo automatic axles longer or shorter than the '94-'98 turbo manual axles?

I have been unable to find a definitive answer to either of these questions on Saabnet or anywhere else on the web.

I am suggesting that we all put our heads together and figure this out and then perhaps Quasi or BillJ could post the information on their websites to make it permanently available to all 9000 owners.

Thanks in advance!

-Kyle
