More detail on my specific malfunctions:

1) headlights on with ignition off and headlamp switch off.

2) if ignition was running this problem was slightly different, i.e. if the headlights came on (while headlamp on/off switch was off) and I turned the headlamp switch to the on position, the headlights would turn off.

3) In the above #2 situation with engine running and headlamp switch in the off position (headlights on), holding the turn signal stalk "in" to engage the "hi-beams" would turn the headlights off.

Not exactly an intuitive sequence of events.

I will report results after I resolder "control" relay contacts.
