Putting a turbo engine in place of the non-turbo isn't a problem in itself. However, power, economy and flexibility would be down due to the lower compression ratio of the turbo engine.
The particular swap you mention, though, would be more difficult because the transmission changed in 1994 and the newer engine won't mate with your older transmission. You would need at least the transmission too (I don't know whether the driveshafts changed).
