I am thinking that the headgasket or such may be on the way out. '88 9000 Turbo 5-speed with 198k, hatch. These are the running conditions...
Initally the car smokes upon startup, but it is strictly blueish oil smoke and there is no smell of sweetness/coolant at all. There is no coolant in the oil. BUT when I left the place after walking to the DMV for temps, the car's coolant tank was full. Upon arrival at the gas station 2 miles down the street to top it up with 93 octane, it had begun to run hot. I checked the coolant there, and the tank was bone dry! I filled it up and such, started the car, and it all seemed to get pumped back into place. I topped it up and called it good. For the next 10ish miles it ran perfectly cool, right in the middle of the gauage. Then upon leaving the electronics store (was there, when I would crank it there was a ton of bubbles which would come out of the coolant tank. Note: this was not hot at all, as I could put my hand in the water comming out. Once it got done (about a gallon) we started it and added another gallon. I then drove 20 miles or so on I70 around 65mph and all was great. Boost was only base, but it still was running pretty well. No burning smell from the ehaust, and no coolant in the oil! weird...
Anyone got an hints? I am going to go get a compression check gague today and see what is going on. I was hoping that it was maybe a water pump or stuck thermostat as when it would begin to heat up, it would seemingly drop instantly back to normal (as if that was when the thermo was opening).
Thanks guys!
