Yikes! Sounds like the a/c problem has gotten worse before it gets better.
Since I know you don't have an owners manual, you may want to program the A/C system so it defaults to the OFF position when you start the car until you get this fixed.
1) Set ACC to desired mode during start-up (in this case, OFF
2) Press the top right button (windshield defrost), and the bottom right button (vents airflow) simultaneously for at least 2-3 seconds until the temperature LED display flashes.
3) Turn off car for at least 30 seconds before starting. Upon start-up, your ACC *should* now be at whatever setting you had selected in #1 (i.e. OFF).
