someone in the engineering dept of saab was paid good money and spent millions of dollars in R&D to reduce turbulence into the passanger compartment of fine cars...just to have people but an ugly $50 plexi glass wind deflectors on it.
the interesting thing is the size of those goofy things just reduces the opening, so why not just close the sun roof some to reduce turbulence or noise? i find them ugly and on some cars noisy. when i bought my 900 and 9000 both they had those goofy things on them and the 88 9000 whistled. i personally think they are uselss and just a product to buy for those who like accessories! i had to laugh my buddy right out of my driveway when he shows up with his BMW 850 with one of these things on it!
if you're adventurous it's not hard to remove some screws from the sunroof system to lift up the glass enough to get the pressboard sunshade out. in my older saab i just had a "fleckstone" like product sprayed on it, instead of fabric again. i wish i had documented the procedure for sun roof "tweeking" as it's hard to find documentation.
this is really all my haynes manual has to say on roofs: http://www.carboncow.com/saab/haynes/sunroofinfo.JPG
if you are mechanically inclined, i'd say block off 1/2 an afternoon and get to know the top of sunroof. if i recall you open it, remove some screws and a retaining cap and the sunroof can be worked up enought as you close it to get to the sunshade...just be patient and it will all go back together!
i learned the hardway buy removing the asembly completely...which is not needed. since then i've done them on every saab i've owned accept my latest CSE.
