I can vouch for the fact that getting the driver's side inner driver out can be a real PITA. It's not just a matter of unbolting a CV joint. You need to slide hammer out the inner driver which has a ~1" dia. splined shaft, and there's not much room to use tools in that area. It took me about three days of frustration before I got it out, and I had to make a puller adapter out of 1/4" steel to do it; it's basically a 4" square with a big cutout so it can slide behind the driver and bolt to a hub puller attachment. You may want to suggest that before they rip the tranny apart. There is a special Saab puller attachment, not sure how much it costs.
There is an o-ring around that flange, which may be where the leak is from. Since you're having the whole thing taken apart anyway, I'd replace that inner driver and the tripod bearing on the axle at the same time.
