I thought I may have an output bearing on the way out but now I'm not so sure.
I took the car to an indy today, put up on lift, ran through the gears. I'm getting a whirring/howling noise coming from the trans area. He used a scope and said the noise was loudest in the center of the trans and said it's "probably internal-won't know until we get it apart"
The sound is pronounced with accel and decel. It goes away when I push in the clutch while rolling, also goes away when I put in neutral while rolling. No noise while idling either in gear, out of gear, clutch in or out. The sound is hardly noticable in 1st but very much in 2nd-5th. The pitch changes with road speed and gets higher the faster I go. I also get a "pop-into-gear" when letting out the clutch once in a while after the car has been sitting a while. Also sometimes hard to get the gearshift out of 1st or Reverse if the car has been sitting. Otherwise shifts fine with no grinding, oil is on dipstick, smells fine and is clean. IS this a release bearing, output bearing, gear noise?
ANYONE have this happen?
I'm going crazy and don't want to drive it like this! It seems to be getting louder...
Thank you!
