I think your BPV (Turbo bypass valve) may not be functioning. It is the vac. driven valve than redirects boost away from the throttle plate when the plate is closed. If the valve actuating vac. tube is disconnected (or if the valve is torn and not responding to a vaccuum, the boost will build up and cause a pressure wave that will try and stall the engine. Obviously, this is not good. The loud clicking sound that you get is probably the solenoid that controls the wastegate. I'm not sure about the origin of the clicking, but the same thing happens when I disconnect the BPV.
Test your BPV by disconnecting the vac. hose that actuates it, and sucking on the valve. If you are able to keep sucking air through there, the valve is shot and will need replacement ($30 or so). It might even be that the vac. hose connecting to the valve is leaking badly and hence the valve is never in vac. Of course, if the vac. tube has blown off (very unlikely but possible), then the valve is totally out of action and that would explain the behaviour.
If everything regarding the BPV looks fine, post back and I'll try think of something else. BTW, the BPV is a black Bosch unit found a little ways down on the aluminium tubing leading to the throttle body. It has a vac. hose connecting to the top of it. It controls flow from this aluminium tube to back between the AMM and the turbo.
