Re-use "New" Headgasket? & Valve Burn Cause Posted by Joe [Email] |
Hello --
I thought I needed a "just" new head gasket on my 91 9KT (losing coolant, white smoke) but before I could get to it I burned an exhaust valve on #3. To make a long story short I had to put in a new head gasket and drive it about 5 miles home while waiting for the new valves to come in. Now the head is off -- again, getting good at it! -- to fix the valve. Does anyone know if I can reuse this "new" head gasket that has been torques and run? Also, I'd be interested in your feedback on why exhaust valves burn & what I should look at before driving it again. I've heard everything from a lean mixture to a leaking injector and I've checked the archives, there is some mention of #3 being "common" to go bad but still looking for a cause or causes.... Thanks! Joe
