My first thought (or hope) is that the battery is defective. I did a valve job on the car about a year ago and replaced the regulator and brushes in the alternator at the same time. (all grounds were cleaned at this time, too.) The cranking voltage during startup can be as much as 11.4 volts (after a few minutes of sitting) to 9.8 volts overnight. Once the alternator is turning, the charging voltage goes to 13.4, which should be normal, right?
However, one other problem might be contributing to this problem. A few months ago, the blower motor for the ACC quit. I had replaced the blower about a year ago also, and could not believe the new motor didn't last longer. Although I haven't replaced the blower motor, I did check the transistor in the ALPS and it appeared OK. When I checked this, I also realized the fan didn't spool up when jumped directly to the battery. The fan is now hooked back up even though it's not working, to prevent the connector from shorting out. I have set the ACC in a "manual mode" to keep the A/C compressor from needlessly kicking in, but could the ACC be causing this blower off and battery drain?
Thanks, Ari
