That brings up an interesting question Zeke. Is it possible to switch to the lower gears in the newer (ie. '93 and later) cars. The gearing is pretty long in these newer cars, and the lower gearing would make them real screamers. Of course in my case it's more a question of an interesting mental exercise, because I want to keep my '98 as stock as possible. Heck, I still haven't installed that JT downpipe I bought from you...However, I imagine there are others on this board that would be interested in exploring the switch.

At 70 mph my '92 is turning right at 3000 rpm, and my '98 is only turning about 2400 rpm, so that is quite a difference. As a side note, I heard the real reason Saab went to the taller gears in '93 was to meet EPA gas mileage minimums. Don't know if that's true, but it makes sense, as the car is better suited for the shorter gears. I prefer my '92 for driving around town as the gearing seems better suited for those conditions. Second gear will allow almost a complete stop, then pull away smoothly. Good for those rolling stops at the stop sign. And first gear is a real stump puller that is great for getting started and going slow up those steep slopes in San Francisco.
