Is mechanic to blame?

I just had my manual transmission fluid changed and now the car grinds shifting into 3rd gear. It did not do this before the service. It was filled with saab synthetic oil (car is 1995 9000 Aero). Is this due to mechanic error or what? Is there something they could have done wrong to create this problem? I do not want to have to buy new synchros or tranny or whatever if this is something that they caused. Any input?
