Bill:
Did the thermo and flush myself
Yep Albuquerque is >5000ft and is quite beautiful indeed. Because it is pretty hot here about 8 months of the year, I installed the cooler 82deg thermos in both cars, and the cooler VW van switches in both as well. The temp guage was indeed acting weird before the new thermo, but it is getting a little worse.
If you can believe it, my wife drives the 91 auto and has a heavier foot than mine. I tend to agree with the assessment that both O2 sensors are ok as the plugs dont look fouled or dirty in any way and are behaving consistently.
My 93 temp guage did it again this morning, only today the temp guage popped *up* from cool to hot in about one second, then back to cool again in about a minute of easy driving. Makes me wonder. The coolant temp sensor for the guage is less than $20 from EEuroparts, so I think I will try it.
Thanks!
Patrick
