attempting to avoid a rebuild...

I have found a great resource for info on oil, fuel additives and other interesting subjets called bobistheoilguy-dot-com. I have read with great interest many posts on internal engine cleaning, something I may post on down the road, and removing carbon buildup in the cylinders and intake. I decided to try one of the methods used by many on that board and got some Lucas UCL (upper cylinder lubricant) to run into the intake on my '87 9000 Turbo. I did this by pulling off an available vacuum line and letting the Lucas be pulled in through a line I put in the bottle. This is done by putting the line near, NOT ON, the vacuum inlet. After doing this for several minutes I took the car for a run and I definitely noticed improved power, especially at low rpm's where it has been somewhat sluggish. It is also smoother.
The main reason I am doing all this is low compression on cyl. 1. I installed a 2.3L head after I had a problem of coolant leaking right past the head gasket at cylinder 1 & 2 between the head and block. This allowed coolant to get into both cylinders which I did not get out until a few days later. This seems to have affected the rings on cylinder 1 so I am trying to see if they are just stuck in the grooves due to junk buildup. The engine has almost 300,000 miles. I'll keep everyone up to date on my progress. I have high expectations the next step I am going to take, using auto-rx, will get rid of any buildup of junk or sludge in the engine and improve things a lot.
