I'm in the process of replacing some of the original parts on my '92 9000 n/a, (145k miles, purchased new). I started out with the thought of only converting the AC from R-12 to R-134. (Of course, summer has come and gone since I started this project, but who's counting) When I got the AC compressor off I saw the water pump was starting to leak, so I ordered a new one. With the compressor and water pump out, I could easily get to the front bottom motor mount, and the bracket that holds it, so I decided to replace motor mounts too. I ordered new oem mounts for the bottom, an oem for the top rear, and a poly for the front top mount, as that seemed to be the way most people go. I then decided that while I was at it, I might as well change the brushes/voltage regulator, as they were also original, and having the alternator out would make it possible to get the bracket off that holds the front upper motor mount. By removing the bracket holding the front upper motor mount, it should be easy to press out the old bushing and replace it with an oem. Something I just read today here on Saabnet is that the orientation of the upper motor mounts is important. Thanks guys. Of course to get the alternator out, Hayne's says to remove the bracket holding the power steering pump. I was having a devil of a time getting that bracket off, until I removed the brace running just aft of the alternator, and power steering pump, from the sub-frame to the wheel arch. It was easy to remove, and once that bracket was out things progressed pretty easily. I've don't remember ever reading on this board about removing that brace, but it's easy to do and sure makes access to the area much nicer. Now that the power steering pump is hanging there loose, I see that the high pressure hose is slightly leaking, so while I'm at it...
This has been an interesting project not only for me, but also for my neighbors. When I raise my garage doors to start work on my car, people around the neighborhood, bring out their lawn chairs and coolers full of beer to watch the proceedings. I've been hearing rumors of a neighborhood pool pertaining to what will be the next "while we're at it" decision. Why don't they just watch Red Green on TV?
