Looking at an ABS sensor will tell you very little, not unless the sensor has been badly damaged. Also, a visual inspection of the sensor connectors will do very little, not unless they're hanging loose. The electrical signal in a connector goes between the two metal contacts, buried deep inside.
A good first step is to open each ABS sensor connector (one at a time is nice), and with a decent digital voltmeter set to Ohms (resistance), measure the resistance of each sensor. You can also do this at the harmonica connector, but you'll need a schematic to know which pins. Ha! I've got that -
At the harmonic connector - 6 and 24 - left rear; 5 and 23 - left front; 4 and 22 - right rear; 7 and 25 - right front.
Of course, I can't remember what 'correct' is, but if one sensor is bad, you'll notice that it's different from the other three.
Sometime just plugging and unplugging the two-pin connectors can help, because the wiping action cleans the contacts.
Unless there is something seriously wrong with the brake fluid - like it isn't there, or been replaced with grape jell-o, bad brake fluid won't cause the ABS light to come on directly.
It's nice to think that the ABS failure was due to the work done in the aquarium, and that is still a good place to look. But in my experience, sometimes things just fail, and coincidences happen, so don't get too wrapped up in trying to make every part of the puzzle fit. Just do straightforward troubleshooting of the ABS system - check sensor resistance, make sure the connections are clean - reseating ALL connectors is a good idea - and inspect the ABS sensor cables - especially near the hubs where they are exposed to dust, dirt, and rocks.
