Sure you wanna do that? To REPLACE the axle you have to REMOVE the axle which requires draining the transmission oil. When my brother and I do this job, we knock the joint off with the axle still in the car. Not the easiest to get it loose but you have to deal with that regardless unless, as suggested, one replaces the entire axle. You have to disassemble the joint (or it's at least recommended) and clean everything but we've never yet had a bad joint. Caught it early enough, I guess. If you check the boots each oil change (or have them checked), you'll probably never ruin one for lack of grease or dirt intrusion.

The main trick to this job is knocking the joint loos while the other person holds the clip retracted with snap-ring pliers.
