The serpentine belt on my 89 9kS broke last week and my mechanic, who has never shafted me before, believes the alternator siezed up and that caused the belt to break. Before I get an alternator thru eEuroparts I would like to hear what some of you folks think. Here's the thing: I have had belt squealing probs for awhile now and the last time it was in they used a stethoscope on it and they said the sound seemed to be coming from the tensioner pulley. Low on $$, I put it off. Now the belt is broken and he thinks the alternator is bad, BUT he says the pulley on it is spinning. He said that by the burn on the belt his experience tells him a bad alt. I brought up the tensioner pulley and he didn't think that was the real problem. He still thinks I need a new alt. I wasn't having any voltage/elec. probs before this, does this sound right? I can't imagine he is trying get any more money because he lets me always get my own parts if I want because it's cheaper for me and he charges me the same hourly rate whether he gets the parts or I do.
Any help or advice? I greatly appreciate it!
