Ball Joint Pinch Bolt Holder Broken Posted by Jon [Email] (#11) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Jon) on Sun, 16 Nov 2003 18:57:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a 91 9000T with 135k miles on it and I have been suffering some unusually handling characteristics / noises. Given the age of the car and the prior posts on the board, I decided to replace most of the front suspension components (front / rear control arm bushings & spacers, swaybar bushings, swaybar links & bushings and ball joints). All of them were severally worn.
I got everything off with little trouble, except that when I removed the pinch bolt for the left side ball joint, one side the holder (hub carrier, I believe) literally fell off.
I can only assume that is a serious problem and the it needs to be fixed immediately. I'm asking for the actual name of the item that secures the ball joint to the wheel assembly and any advice as the difficulty to replace it. Also, does anyone have any ideas as to how much one of these costs and where I can get one, besides the dealer?
I'm fairly handy around the car, so I prefer to do this myself, I just kinda want to know what I'm getting into and how long it will take. Thanks in advance for any advice everyone can offer.
