In the act of replacing the thermostat and valve cover gasket, there's no reason to disturb the hoses going to the throttle body AT the throttle body. You say it's leaking there? Or at the head?

If your thermostat was bad enough, it may have prevented coolant from passing and thus there wasn't enough pressure to cause a leak at the TB beforehand; freed up by a functioning thermostat, could be the cause of it now.

Possibly if the coolant flow is restored the engine has now decided to have a go at spewing oil, although some leakage on these engines is routine and not cause for concern in and of itself. Other things to ask yourself include whether the car's heater is working any better/faster than before the Tstat changeout.

A leaking head gasket will not always result in the co-mingling of oil and coolant. A good test to see if the combustion process is pressurizing the cooling system is to take the small overflow hose off the nipple on the expansion tank and submerge it in a clear bottle full of water. See bubbles? That's combustion gases and a sign of head gasket compromise. Now, how much bubbling is permissible and how much indicates a real problem? I would say the odd bip...bip...bip might not be too much worry; on the other hand Lawrence Welk-like bubble production should get you on the phone to your preferred source of gaskets and head bolts.

I may be attributing your symptoms to the head gasket in error, of course. Let's root for that. But try the bottle test and let us know what you discover!
