Townsend says he's gotten good results with Mercedes brand cooland. It's also sold as G-05, IIRC, and you can get it at stores like Bumper to Bumper for about $8 US per gallon. Or you can go to this one auto parts store in my town and pay $24 a gallon, or about $13 a gallon at the Mercedes dealer. Anyway, Townsend says it keeps the cooling system squeaky clean, with no hint of corrosion.

I put in a Prestone flush/fill kit. The piece gets installed in the hose taht goes from the end of the cyl head to the heater core. I flushed all the old out, closed the system, filled with distilled water with a few splashes of G-05, ran the engine, let it cool, drained the radiator, repeated, then filled with coolant, filling first with half the cooling system capacity with G-05, then distilled water. I did this because some of the last batch of whatever you put in there is trapped in the block, and if you add 1:1 antifreeze:water when the last thing you had in there was pure water, you end up with a dilute mixture. The only drawback is that the radiator drain plug is a bear to put back in, if the plastic guard is installed under the radiator.
