Diagnosis of dead engine

Hi all,
Well the 89 9Ks with 196K miles failed me 700 miles from home. I had just driven the said 700 miles on Saturday and all was well. Sunday I only moved the car in the driveway, no problems. Monday it turned over but nothing. It would pop 1 or 2 times when first cranked but not get close to starting. While turning over it sounded somewhat like a Nissan Sentra with a failed timing belt (ask me how I know). It is getting spark and fuel and the timing chain is not broken and the teeth on the cams look good, the one on the crank looks good for as much of it I can see looking down from above. The chain itself has some slop, you can moove it about 1/4 inch up and down between the cams. I did a compression test and cyl 1&2 were around 130psi and 3&4 were around 90 psi, not good, but it had just driven well for 700 miles. With the dubious compression should I mess with it or just swap in the engine from my parts car?
Am I overlooking something obvious? It seems that way.
Thanks, Palmer
