Around 200k I had coolant leaking into #2 cylinder. So I did the head gasket, and some other stuff, I posted about it in mid 2002. I had the head shaved, the machinist said it was bad enough that he had to let it cool before finishing it. So I think it may have been shaved beyond what a rebuilder would consider the minimum, since there's only a few mm that can be removed.
After doing it, I put in the Bars Leak that comes in the grey bottle. And I still had a slight leak, a few hundred miles before the coolant light came on. Well, it's progressed. I think it's very likely that I have a cracked head. And I'd prefer keeping the down time to a minimum.
I was also hoping that the Bars Leak will let me wait until the end of Jan., when my brother will be out of town. That way I can leave my car in the garage without any complaints. It works OK most of the time, but it's really obvious when the Bars Leak fails, then it seems to take a little while to fill up whatever hole there is. And boost seems to make it leak more.
Of course I figure the longer I wait, the easier it will be to find the failed point. It's just really embarrassing to have billowing white clouds around you at a red light. Fortunately, it was doing good when I had the smog test on Monday.
Thanks, Bradley
