If you look at some of the recommended service intervals from the Japanese car companies, tensioner wheels and belts are a 60k item.
My '97 is nearing 110k, so it's due for it's second set of wheels and belts. At the same time I plan on changing the water pump and the hydraulic tensioner as both are living on borrowed time.
These are my personal guidelines, as I hate being stuck and with an aluminum head on a cast iron block overheating a B234 is a quick ticket to a major repair.
I have a theory, supported by plenty of evidence, that any gasket sandwiched between cast iron and aluminum eventually fails given enough thermal cycles. With my 9000s I'm hoping that point is well past 250k. Time will tell.
