95 CSE intermittant No Start

My wifes 95 CSE is having an intermittant starting problem.
Once or twice a week it will not start, cranks, but doesn't start. Runs flawlessly after that. I replaced the DI a few months ago (missing under load)plus she said she thought it may have done it before that anyway. When it happens, it usually has been sitting for at least a few hours
Anyway, it seems to be getting worse, more frequent (twice today) and takes longer before it decides to fire. It has gone from "Hmm. it didn't start, let me try it again, oh there it goes" to 5 mins of intermittant cranking. Sometimes it seems to fire after reclosing the door or open/close the hood.
The trouble is that I never catch it in the act.
I have read the posts concerning the no starts/CPS/Fuel pump and will go out tomorrow and poke, prod, clean and test.
The one thing that it does do that I haven't seen, it that when it does fire, sometimes it backfires when starts. I would think that this would point to the CPS. The other thing is that if it is running OK and I check volts/ohms on the CPS will It check out OK, or do I have to catch it when it decides not to start.
Thanks for any other opinons/thoughts.
