hey Chris,
Are you sure its the heater core ? I replaced my ac blower last weekend. In that process I removed the heater core hoses so that I could remove and reinstall the blower/fan case. I was not having as much of a fog issue as you were but was smelling the 'smell' After re installing the hoses, no smell anymore. I had read on this board in the past that if you still had the quick disconnects on the hoses leading to the heater core, that you may have the original heater core. In my case, I had the typical hose clamps which suggested my core had been replaced already. I am concluding that I had a lose connection on one of the hoses. Check yours out - they are a bit to get to (under the fish tank, You will need a universal on the wrench).
