Polyurethane bushings - how to get rid of noise? Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Wed, 11 Feb 2004 20:20:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I recently changed the front control arm rear bushings for the pre-mounted polyurethane "generic" model sold by Eeuroparts - they no longer sell Powerflex, claim this is just as good. The diference in handling is a SPECTACULAR improvement, but now the car is making a groaning/squishing noise when it goes over large bumps. I just redid the installation using silicone compound on the front and rear surfaces of the bushing and anti-seize on the control arm spindle, tightened the rear spindle nut when the car was on the ground (pretty tight, couldn't get a torque wrench in there), but it is still noisy. I couldn't see any way of lubing the pre-installed crush tube.
Is this the price of good handling, or is there something that can be done about the noise? Will it go away over time or will it get worse?
